This is for adventerous people of all ages!!

After a very successful squirrel day in Strontian, Ardnamurchan last weekend, this is a call for help to record squirrels and squirrel activity in the north and west of the Highlands. If you look at the photo gallery it will show some examples of squirrel signs - stripped cones, opened hazel nuts and dreys.

On the map on the sightings page, you will see where the gaps are.  We would love to have more information from Sutherland, Caithness, Lochaber and Argyll.  We do know that the north and west of the Highlands have fewer red squirrels than the east, this is mainly due to the climate and amount of suitable habitat.  However, the more people looking, the better chance we have of knowing their true extent.  This is really important in assuring a future for this iconic, much loved creature of the forest.

So, please do get out there this spring and summer - if you need any guidance sheets or maps, contact Juliet.  Good luck and enjoy!!
