Red Squirrel of the Highlands

Saving Scotland's red squirrels

03 March 2010 by juliet

Tuesday 16th February at Battleby

I attended this day as representative of red squirrels of the Highlands.  It was an interesting day and a good opportunity to meet up with other squirrel officers and interested parties from all around Scotland.

This is a National project, managed by Mel Tonkin who co-ordinates 3 red squirrel officers in Grampian, Tayside and Argyll plus 4 grey squirrel controllers.  Red squirels of the Highlands is a sister project to this National one.

Their project vision is to achieve (and maintain) thriving red squirrel oppulations in the Highlands, Argyll, North-east Scotland and northern Tayside through protection from grey squirrels.  This will be achieved by halting their spread northwards from Central lowands and outwards from Aberdeen.

For any further information, have a look at their website.
